End of Utopia

End of Utopia

The Heygate Estate at Elephant & Castle was demolished in 2013 amid much controversy, with a loss of 1214 homes. Incorporating the 1968 floorpans and newspaper headlines from the archives, the work reflects on this loss and the loss of utopian dreams. As an act of quiet protest, a woven banner was installed in Elephant Park on the trees that are now the only remaining part of the estate.
